For the last four or so years there has been rumours arising about a new supergroup consisting of Queens of the Stone Age’s lead man Josh Homme, former Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones and former Nirvana drummer, Dave Grohl (whom currently fronts Foo Fighters). The rumour became reality on August 10th this year as 'Them Crooked Vultures' played their debut at ‘Metro’ in Chicago.
According to The Chicago Tribune, Grohl played drums; Homme took the guitar and vocals, while Jones was on bass and keyboards, with a 75 minute performance at an apparently jam-packed Metro.
The trio has been working on an album in Los Angeles since the beginning of the year, but their music has been kept under wraps with no leaks to our community ‘torrent’ sites and ‘peer to peer’ software just yet. The band has a ’14 second’ video based on their song ‘Nobody Loves Me’ that can be found at youtube.
With such a prolific lineup ‘Them Crooked Vultures’ will hopefully produce a shining debut album that defines the meaning of ‘Hard Rock’. Looking at the set list from their first gig thus far (see below), the entire set list is fastidiously fresh & will likely feature on their album.
I know I’m looking forward to their debut album, and hope they don’t succumb to the ‘Supergroup’ syndrome and cark it after one album.
