Set to be based at the new Swan Street rectangular stadium, this decision is sure to make Melbourne an even more significant sporting city. Fingers crossed they'll be able to recruit Will Chambers back to a Melbourne-based club.

This is a sensational outcome for the Victorian rugby community. In our 100th year of organised rugby under the VRU, this is a fitting reward for the work of many people.

Melbourne deserves international rugby and deserves to have its own team. The Government has provided us with the world's best playing facility in our new stadium opening next year, and I know that Melbourne sports fans will get behind their newest team.

This is a shared victory and the VRU is grateful to all of the supporters, not just the current, but all those who have made rugby in Victoria strong and capable of taking on this new and exciting opportunity.

Go the Rebels!

Gary Gray, president of VRU
<br doing some regular themed posts to keep me motivated. To start with I'm gonna start doing a Friday Five of some of the coolest things I've stumbled across from the week. Here we go:

1. SF x NB M850JSF

Finally a release date for the much awaited collaboration between Sneaker Freaker & New Balance. December 5th, no word yet on where they will be dropped. Maxi & I were fortunate to see these in the flesh at the SF issue #16 launch party, and they looked pretty flippin' sweet.

pic from New Balance Live

2. Witness starring Harrison Ford

Stumbled across this gem on TV1 while channel surfing pay. Harrison Ford stars as a cop protecting a child witness (who witnessed a murder) in an Amish community. Sounds like a stellar plot doesn't it. Plenty of suspenseful 80s synth soundtrack to keep you on the edge of your seat & a little bit of 80s Amish nudity to keep the boys watching. Check your tv guide now, it's sure to be the midday movie tomorrow.

3. A totally original blend i wont even try categorising. For a 3 piece their sound is huge. I first caught them at the Birmingham earlier this year with Duck Duck Chop & the now defunct These Ocean Arms. You can download their first 2 albums HERE!!!!!

Textures In Tide are a relatively new outfit with members from These Ocean Arms, haven't seen a full set yet but if it remains as consistent as the stuff i have seen/heard then they're well on their way to being a name to remember. Yes, everywhere, to the shops, to work, uni, friends place, the toilet, the kitchen, letterbox. No one says thank you. I don’t get a little letter from council, thanked for not contributing to all kinds of enviro-socio-cultural pollution and decay. I don't even get my own little lane on most streets. No. none of that. Instead, lowered Hondas with epic sound systems sideswipe me. Irate delivery drivers abuse me. Bored trophy wives ignore me; their adorable little kids open doors on me. If I had a dollar for every time I nearly died riding to university, I would buy a bike for that lovely chap who tried to knock me down then blame it on me and watch him navigate not quite peak hour traffic on an 80km/hr road.

I don’t ride because I love it. I don't ride because I can’t afford alternative means of transport. I don’t ride for the environment. I don’t ride because it’s faster than public transport. For the sheer joy of near death experience, the absolute bliss only found in pushing your body, or the intimate relationship that grows between body, mind and machine. I don’t ride cos I love the elements, especially spring showers and colossal crosswinds. I don’t ride so I can scream at accident-prone senile death mongers.

I ride for all these reasons.

I ride because I can.

I will ride until killed, injured or bike destroyed.
Because every push of the pedals is a way of saying “fuck you”.

Love, Max

Eat: Carman's classical fruit muesli bars

Read: Kingdom Of Fear, Hunter S. A whole lot of shit has been happening last couple of weeks. Between the Blueprint festival, (epic. Cold. Fun. Mud. …More on that later), noise complaints, house hunting, and the usual uni shit (less on that from now on) I've kind of been deciding which tat I'm going to spend my hard earned student allowance on, and I realised that It’s been over a year since getting a tattoo. Wasn’t that a fucking adventure:

2 weeks off and one plan – go to beach rent a van, or whatever and surf. Plan = fail. First week sick in bed, next week I flew to Sydney and dick about looking for shit to do while thinking about organising a quick surf on the coast before heading to Lismore for my cousins wedding. With more money and time than I know what to do with I walked into a tattoo parlour …………. 7 hours and 750 dollars later and my left calf is the proud new owner of a bright red koi carp. What. A fucking. Douche bag. I was in a bit of shock (having someone needle your flesh will do that – it’s an open wound after the prelim colours). I was in the middle of slurry hills. The 10-minute walk to the hostel took 2 hours. I couldn’t find a place to eat, I had to find a chemist, and I needed water. What I really needed was sleep.

Shaking with fever by the time I got to bed, don’t really remember much. All I know is I didn’t want my clothes to get covered in blood-ink, so I slept the deepest twelve hour sleep ever in a busy raucous mine field of din and boozy calamity that was my dorm, in my jocks.

Next morning – jeans are gone. Wallet in the jeans – gone. Watch in the jeans, gone. Ipod w new shitty expensive earphones that didn’t fit my tiny elf ears – gone. Keys to locker with shit in it – gone. Shit in locker – unscathed. Sunglasses – gone. Not that I cared too much, all that grates me is the belt, it was my grandfathers and unreplaceable. The rest – insured! Cos guess what –my original intentions were a sunny two weeks in Thailand, but a whole bunch of political jargon went down and my unorganised yet resourceful self took it as an opportunity to get a refund on the ticket. The insurance still carried.

When my overpriced unreliable virgin Internet was actually working I emailed my parents and told them the situation. They tried to contact me immediately, and every hour after. The hostel went to no efforts what so ever in informing me of this, I just happened to be at the counter a day later when I recognised the number on call id as my mothers mobile. (Not that I knew it off by heart – hence me not calling).
No money. No food. No friends. No surfing. But I was fine.

Made it to Lismore free of dramas. The wedding was the usual family fest where the illusory nature of ‘normal happy family’ is revealed to you. Quite fun. Glad to leave.
Drove to Forster with my mum dad and sister in mums’ brand new Mazda 3. I was lucky enough to sit behind my 6”3’ father the whole 9 hours, but it was worth it. The place we stayed in was a glorious 12th story apartment 360 degree view of the area, estuary on one side, and beach on the other, sleepy nothing the whole way round.

Perfect.

Ocean!

I walked up to the waters edge. Nice hot day too, and then I remember the tattooists words – no salt water. No swimming. Not for at least 2 weeks.

!!!

Anyway… the point of the story…
That all happened September last year, so 12 months after getting the Koi I am eligible to give blood. And that is exactly what I did yesterday. If you haven’t done it do yourself a favour, you don’t know what you haven’t done. You get to sit down, get all light headed and woozy while a little hose feeds your blood into a bag, then sit down some more and enjoy all the free OJ, biscuits and week old newspaper a man can muster. Oh and you save lives etc etc. But I wasn’t allowed to exercise post donation, which meant I had to suffer a fate worse than fainting while navigating near peak hour traffic on my bicycle – nearly fainting on peak hour public transport. As I had didn’t have my Ipod, and uni books, homework, or newspaper wouldn't satiate I had to get a book.
So... (and here it comes the point of the story). I bought Little Brother by Cory Doctrow. It’s an Orwellian fiction based in an alternate current day USA – post patriot act II. After a major terrorist attack on San Francisco the department of homeland security imprisons a 17-year-old high schooler, Marcus. Upon release he discovers every citizen is treated as a terrorist suspect, San-Fran is a police state. Through Marcus we learn valuable and practical lessons on technology, security, and the importance of privacy and liberties in the internet-era as he tries to take down the DHS.

It’s got some bad points – the obligatory love interest, but he’s seventeen, and Doctrow covers it really well. Doctrow can get a little too Dan Brown in his explanation of the historical and techy interests, however, they develop the story quite nicely. Relationships can seem a little predictable and one dimensional, it isn’t exactly trainspotting or Othello, but whatever.

It’s a real fast read. I mean lightning quick. But there’s nothing pulp about it, informative as it is entertaining. Above all else it gets you thinking. I seriously recommend it to anyone and everyone. I can’t emphasise enough how exciting it is. I know I get geared up over the most mundane shit and seem kind of dulled over when the good shit is in abundance but this is the real deal.

…And the meaning of a koi tattoo for those of you who are interested/ still reading this blog.
According to wikianswers.com: “According to Japanese legend, if a koi succeeded in climbing the falls at a point called Dragon Gate on the Yellow River, it would be transformed into a dragon. Based on that legend, it became a symbol of worldly aspiration and advancement.
More generally, the Japanese associate koi (also known as carp) with perseverance in adversity and strength of purpose. Because of its strength and determination to overcome obstacles, it stands for courage and the ability to attain high goals. “

Up until 2 days ago, I really didn’t appreciate that tattoo at all.

Anyway, I'm out. Following a Yahoo search I discovered that, 'On September 3, posters appeared around the streets of Melbourne, Australia featuring the line "FOLLOW WHAT'S HEARD"[13], a picture of a Vulture, and the URL http://www.frontiertouring.com/followwhatsheard'. Although I stumbled around the city last night, I unfortunately didn't notice any of the aforementioned posters (as my head was full of sneakers, to be continued..). The URL leads to a webpage featuring the image above and a countdown timer (currently displaying 4:19:43:40), which leads me to believe that an announcement will be made in 4 days, to the tune of a possible Australian tour from Them Crooked Vultures. I guess you could say I'm a little protective of it. It’s kept in two durable soft cases sandwiched between some foam while I'm in transit, which is nearly always on my trusty Malvern Star. I've fallen off a few times and been pushed off a few more, I put it down to the excessive layers saving my mac from a nasty finish.

Anyway, while browsing through a recent copy of the juztapoz ‘zine I found an ad for a company that makes protective cases for pc’s, games consoles and apple products. The designs range from urban street art to contemporary low-brow and everything between, above and below, also, there are masters including Vincent van Gough and Escher. Typically artists contribute one piece (some have more) and it is then applied to every template option. The company aim is to produce “protection with style, not bulk” and they achieve just that. A real benefit is the ability to read about each artist and follow links to their own website.

A real highlight is the recent inclusion of Drak Horse Comics, so expect to find some of Frank Millers work soon!!! His name is Tmac. I felt it might be useful to introduce him & what he'll bring to Libsynth. Firstly, Tmac is our in-library expert on Cider Beer, having an acquired taste to Appley alcoholic beverages, he will hopefully discuss his little-known preference in beer. He is also able to name pretty much every Decepticon & Autobot, and being a true fan despises Michael Bay's lack of following the true storyline & frequent unnecessary explosions. Tmac's only known vice is his obsession with Dragon Ball Z, I'm puzzled by this infatuation with Goku, apparently he's almost finished the 400+ eps of the entire series. On a more positive note, like Max & myself Tmac doesn't like to define his taste in music and isn't restrained by genres & hypebeasts. Look for his signature at the bottom of posts & you'll be reading the freshest news as he gets it.

<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; (whom currently fronts Foo Fighters). The rumour became reality on August 10th this year as 'Them Crooked Vultures' played their debut at ‘Metro’ in Chicago.

According to The Chicago Tribune, Grohl played drums; Homme took the guitar and vocals, while Jones was on bass and keyboards, with a 75 minute performance at an apparently jam-packed Metro.

The trio has been working on an album in Los Angeles since the beginning of the year, but their music has been kept under wraps with no leaks to our community ‘torrent’ sites and ‘peer to peer’ software just yet. The band has a ’14 second’ video based on their song ‘Nobody Loves Me’ that can be found at youtube.

With such a prolific lineup ‘Them Crooked Vultures’ will hopefully produce a shining debut album that defines the meaning of ‘Hard Rock’. Looking at the set list from their first gig thus far (see below), the entire set list is fastidiously fresh & will likely feature on their album.

I know I’m looking forward to their debut album, and hope they don’t succumb to the ‘Supergroup’ syndrome and cark it after one album.
The tracklisting for 'The Blueprint 3', September 11th release, has been put up on the Jay-Z site. I hadn't heard about the Luke Steele 'What we talkin' Bout' collab, so I'm interested to hear what comes of it. I'm pleased that 'Jockin' Jay-Z' & 'Brooklyn Go Hard' haven't been thrown into the mix (as they're now at least 12 months old), and there's plenty of fresh tracks with sweet collabs (Alicia Keys, Kid Cudi & Pharrell) that haven't been released yet. I can't wait to get my hands on this, with high expectations following 'American Gangster'..

Tracklisting from: www.jay-z.com

Daz

Gentlemen Broncos

Jared Hess' third major (written & directed) film Gentlemen Broncos, follows on from the cult success of Napolean Dynamite (Jon Heder) and to a lesser extent Nacho Libre (Jack Black). It takes a great band, amazing sound, and most importantly, and often most overlooked, a great audience to achieve what is a hard feeling to describe: You aren’t just at a gig and it’s better than drugs. It will get you closer to god than religion ever could. Few shows can do this for people.

Personal highlights (apart from dancing plush lizards and sheep, copious amounts of giant balloons, elaborate light show) were Yeah Yeah Yeah Song, Yoshimi Pt 1, She Don't Use Jelly and above all else Do You Realize?? Waynes' eloquent introductions to these songs combined with extreme closeups of his face made this a very intimate experience despite the sold out venue.

They played two new songs 'Silver Trembling Hands' The Cardinals come out to play

Upon reading the EG section in The AGE yesterday (pg. 10), I discovered that The Cardinals (Ryan Adams most recent backing band) have recently gone back to the studio with 23 y/o unknown Kiwi Gin Wigmore. Wigmore's debut album 'Holy Smoke' (September 25th release) was recorded in LA with The Cardinals in May. 'Oh My', the album's first single, displays Wigmore's unique vocals (think Macy Gray/ Duffy/ Amy Winehouse), plenty of organ & rocky riffs that are standout Cardinals signatures, with a little bit of handclapping & harp. The track 'Under My Skin', off Wigmore's first EP (pre-Cardinals), has been used in a series of Air New Zealand commercials. In regards to how Adams feels about the whole process, on Ryan Adams forum, fans believe Adams has given The Cardinals his blessings to continue down new avenues. Others think the move will make Ryan jealous and lead him to making music again. This following Adams' recent shock retirement from the music industry leading to the pursuit of a new career in writing novels & poetry.

Wigmore is touring in Aug/Sept with the following dates solo:

27 August- Notes, Sydney

2 September- The Toff in Town, Melbourne

3 September- The Troubadour, Brisbane

And later supporting Josh Pyke on his Variations tour through Oct/Nov:
29 October- The Palace, Melbourne
30 October- Big Top: Luna Park, Sydney
6 November- Fremantle Arts Centre, Fremantle
7 November- Big Top: Brisbane

Unfortunately, it's HIGHLY unlikely The Cardinals will be backing Wigmore on the tour.

You can listen to 'Oh My' and samples of other tracks at Gin Wigmore's Myspace- http://www.myspace.com/ginwigmore

Gin Wigmore & The Cardinals

"I do love a man in uniform!"

Daz

Listening to: Joan as Police Woman- To Survive
Watching: Mean Streets
Drinking: Arctic Fox Ice Cap Lager

Moustache Cup.

The following is a brief account of the Moustache cup.

They are an appendage which stops a moustache from getting wet, and generally look something like this.

Invented in the mid to late nineteenth century by a British potter Harvey Adams. The exact circumstances around the fabled creation are known to a select few individuals. The popular misconception is Adams was torn from slumber after a vivid dream. In a mad rush, sweaty and disoriented he wrote the details on the wall using his wife’s lipstick. It goes something as follows.

“I was sitting at my turnpike swiveling clay when a strange noise filled the air. It seemed to come from yonder. A mystical sound; like a slightly out of tune harp, being played by a particularly romantic jockey with small stubby fingers. I opened the window and was greeted by the sight of a small jockey playing a harp. He was barely able to reach the furthermost strings. It was a terrible sight.
“Private property” I told him and mustered my most menacing gaze. “get off my land, I’ll have no bloody beggars under this potters pottery.”
he stopped and looked at me incredulously. 'don’t ye know who I am?' "

At this point the lipstick ran out. It is understood his wife tore him to sheds soon after.

The lesser known alternative to this ridiculous tale rings closer to the truth.
Being kicked out of his own home after mysterious events surrounding his wife’s lipstick Adams met a beautiful Welsh woman one night at the circus.
He spotted her from afar as he was entering a circus tent on the edge of town. It was a brief moment, and although their eyes only met for a second Adams was in love. The odd looking lights went out as he found his seat the woman fell from view, but not his heart. “ladies and gentlemen. Boys and girls. Welcome to Descovskys' Traveling Emporium!” the ringleader called.
In a flash the lights came back on. Lions, muscle men, clowns, tight rope walkers, midgets, beasts of indescribable shapes and sizes filled the chaotic ring below. As the show stretched on he grew tired. attention was elsewhere, continuously scanning the audience for another gaze into her beautiful eyes.
Disenchanted he left early and thought about heading home to apologise to his wife, or at least sleep in the garden. He was kicking stones, scuffing his shitty shoes, when he noticed the woman only a few metres ahead. . She was slender in the right parts and plump in others. Just to his liking. This welsh goddess was singing softly to herself and had the voice of a well tuned harp played moderately well. How long had she been there? No idea. He broke into a cold sweat, swore under his breath. “fuck”. but a little louder than he’d hoped, as it came out more like “FUCK!” She jumped, startled, tripped over, landing on her ankle with a sickening THWAK! “FWUUUUUURRRRCK!” she cried out. A panicked Adams rushed over in a fit of apologies. She looked up from the sick wound. He froze. “The Moustachiod Welsh Wonder” he gasped.

And the rest is history.

Max.

Today Was A Good Day- Nike SB commercial

Although I'm not a fan of Nike & not impressed by what Nike SB has done to the rest of the skateboarding shoe industry, I had to share this. Because if you're reading this then chances are you 1) don’t rate my critiques. And/or 2) have enough intelligence to see a pattern from previous film interpretations of the franchise and assume it will follow suit. Or 3) are a biased, crazed 'arry Potter fan, in which case 1 is irrelevant and 2 is not applicable.

Rowling’s' assumed refusal to allow Yates to adapt the story to screen creatively, if at all, has annihilated any possibility of a climactic arc. The running time makes this completely unacceptable. However, credit must be given where due. I speak of the romantic relationship development between two integral characters. It is a sensitive and intelligent portrayal, which perfectly juxtaposes the tender love with the chaotic and cruel rise of the dark lords army. It was developed with appropriate ratios of humour, tension and wonder. The tumultuous emotions felt by love struck youth are perfectly portrayed. I applaud the bravery of all involved, even if I am a little confused as to its location in the text. Homosexuality has long been a taboo subject, especially in the wizarding world.

Max

<img style="cursor: pointer; The track Run This Town features Yeezy & Rihanna. Kanye surprisingly takes the track for me with his hilarious verse, but Rihanna ruins it by being Rihanna. This song will probably be the first track from the album to get recognised by commercial radio, solely because Rihanna does the chorus & I be thinkin it's the first track she's released since the 'chris brown incident'. Good laid back track, different direction from D.O.A (Death of Auto-Tune). Can't wait for the album!

Here's the track if you wanna listen.. http://jay-z.com/index.php

Daz

Greetings

This creation is the brainchild of two kids called Max & Daz, you may know us, you may not.
